AEYAVIEL

Aeyaviel

Featured in the Secret of Tarot novels: A Celestial Atonement and The Sins of Serpent.

The Hierophant, though unknown if the individual was female or male, was said to be the creator of all angels, and of the land of Aeyaviel, the safe haven for them. She/he is also presumed to be the First Oracle, but evidence shows otherwise.

AEYAVIEL is a country located in the western region of Naestrirea. Its name consists of two parts, each representing a vital element of the nation. "Aeya" means "freedom-loving and free-spirited individual" and "viel" means "a lot" in German. The name was chosen for the angels who live in this area, who are free-spirited creatures.

 

The only creatures who inhabit this area are angels, winged creatures who provide blessings to those in need. The main language that is spoken is English, though there are some German influences within their culture as well. The lore behind Aeyaviel is inspired by Christian mythology.

Aeyaviel sits inside various mountains. There are no roads since everyone travels by flying. The heart of Aeyaviel is grassy and sunny. However at the base of the mountain, there is an illusion to those passing through that the temperatures are below freezing and a terrible blizzard that never stops. This is used to dissuade visitors from ascending the mountain since they've become a somewhat isolated species.

HISTORY OF AEYAVIEL

BEFORE AEYAVIEL BECAME AN ESTABLISHED NATION in Naestrirea, there was only one, the Hierophant. She was a counselor, a savior, and a mother to those who would later become Aeyavielans. In the Beginning, she listened to the prayers of humans suffering throughout the realm. They wanted a place they could call home, they wanted the exploitation of their species to cease, but most of all, they wanted peace. So, she taught them the art of tranquility, and created Aeyaviel as their safe haven.

Citizens of other nations thought the Hierophant was fictitious and that the humans were blindly following delusions. However, these doubts were silenced when reports began circulating throughout Naestrirea. They spoke of winged creatures spreading blessings to the ill, troubled, and listless. Beings who were considered ​the purest because no amount of darkness could creep into their hearts or alter their course.

 

However, in 238 AC, this opinion quickly changed after some desired to exploit them. ​These battles were between humans who wished to gain the power of the angels and the angels themselves. Many deceived angels into blessing them, but ultimately, through this, stole their power and became dark angels.

Ever since this incident, Aeyavielans do not intervene in mortal matters unless the balance of the world is at stake. Their presence is only noticeable to those that are most observant. Additionally, their lands are enshrouded by an intangible cloak similar to that of the Vale of Aestreria.

AIVRENA is a country located in the central region of Naestrirea. Its name means "pure sun and air" in the language of the elves. The name relates to their love and respect for nature as their culture revolves around it. The environment is filled with lush greenery and flowers. The natives share a community garden that is filled with a wide array of fruits and vegetables. There are two types of seasons in this area: rainy and dry.

 

During the rainy seasons, roads can become flooded, so they've created trenches around the towns to help counteract this. There are typically a lot of monsoons during this time, so traveling and trade is very limited. During the dry season, it is a good opportunity to harvest plants that grow during the rainy season and to plant crops that grow during the dry season. It is a bit more difficult to harvest crops without overhead protection due to the sun's extended exposure on the crops.

Máire is the capital of Aivrena and where the current Elf Queen, Thalia, lives. The other cities are Echodia, Wildemire, Shimmerwood, and Amberfell. The Neverbarrows is an isolated area where elves who engaged in dark magic are banished. The only creatures who inhabit this area are elves, magical beings with pointed ears. Some elves serve as seers (also referred to as oracles), individuals who can see the future, but it is an old magic that only passes down through five bloodlines. The main language spoken here is English, though there are some Scandinavian influences within their culture as well. The lore behind Aeyaviel is inspired by Norse mythology.

HISTORY OF AIVRENA

AIVRENA WAS CREATED BY THE GODDESS OF LIGHT, MEIHUI, in 1 BC. For the elves, Meihui is worshipped as Solas, their goddess of nature and light. Their race began with two elves, Alarik and Carina, who represented opposite aspects. Carina's compassionate nature represented the light, while Alarik represented darkness. They coexisted for a few years, until eventually the dark elves began to crave more.

 

From 75 to 375 AC, the dark elves engaged in the Three Hundred Year war against the light elves, hoping to gain control over the light's territory. The dark grew tired of the rules they had to abide by in order to maintain their treaty with the light elves, so they decided to make their own rules by expanding their territory. The dark elves' fear exacerbated when they discovered the light elves had given Moira, the First Oracle, asylum in their lands.

The lives of many elves were lost during this terrible war, and it ended in the dark elves' banishment from society and exile to the Neverbarrows.

AUZINEIA

Auzineia

Ranked slightly higher than ordinary humans, the Elemental Mages became hungry for more after becoming unhappy with how "beasts'' ruled their world.

AUZINEIA is a country located in the northeastern region of Naestrirea. On the northern coast lie the towns of Edgecross, Cleardenn, Everbell, and Northfield. These towns are primarily inhabited by the Water and Earth Clans. The capital is Windhaven, but most Air Mages live here. Mill Harbor and Southshear are inhabited by the Fire Clan.

 

The climate in Auzineia is neutral and changes along with the four seasons. Temperatures can get as high as 75 degrees Fahrenheit, but as cold as 37 degrees Fahrenheit. However, the Water and Air Clans typically work together to forge a protective barrier around their towns to keep everyone warm during autumn and winter.

The only creatures who inhabit this area are elemental mages, humans who were blessed with the ability to wield a single element, which is decided at birth. The main language spoken here is English, though there are some Celtic influences within their culture as well. The lore behind Auzineia is inspired by Celtic mythology.

GENERAL HISTORY OF AUZINEIA

AUZINEIA WAS CREATED BY CASTIMONIA, the Goddess of Morality, and granted magical powers by Solas, or Meihui, in 1 BC and is inhabited by Elemental Mages. Upon birth, each mage demonstrates an affinity with a specific element and this will dictate their path of magical training through adolescence.

There are five clans each led by a noble house: water, fire, earth, air, and aether. Elemental mages can only control one element; this is essential to maintaining balance in the Realm. Ranked slightly higher than ordinary humans, the Elemental Mages became hungry for more after becoming unhappy with how "beasts'' ruled their world. Auzineia's most notorious leader was Declan who created expansionist values in his people and wanted to control all of the elements.

DANCE OF THE DRAGONS

TOWARDS THE END OF 1700 AC, and with how displeased and fearful elemental mages of the dragons' strength, fear-inspired uprisings began in Auzineia. Concerned that the dragons would eventually eliminate weaker beings with the powerful tarot cards they possessed, the mages decided to take matters into their own hands. As result, between 1700-1800 AC, many dragons were exploited and killed in what later came known as the Great Dragon War.

The War only ended when Emperor Fang Xun used Major Arcana: The Emperor. However, the Tarot is known to tear apart its user, thrusting them into a state of chaos and insanity. While the Elemental Mages were permanently expelled from Wuzhen, it also destroyed Declan's body. After the Dragon-Mage War, the mages were forced to rebuild and established their new leader as Liam.​ He was known for bringing upon major reform within Auzineia, bringing forth better education and stronger, ethical values within his subjects.

 

Understanding the importance of never disrupting the natural balance, some Elemental Mages vowed to never leave the borders of Auzineia. However, during the Great War, they gained sympathizers among the humans in Shangzihua, Wuzhen. While some may not wish for a war, there are still several individuals who will always desire more.

A CELESTIAL REQUIEM

AFTER THE DISCOVERY OF THE LAST CELESTIAL DRAGON (Shen Mingxia) in Shangzihua, the current leader, Ian, was approached by Cerai to abduct the princess in order to obtain her Tarot cards to resurrect his fallen mate. Cerai's eventual betrayal led to the elemental mages and dragons forging a new bond and giving Mingxia the strength to go out into the realm to try to save her ill mate.

➺ While no longer used, the Minor Arcana's the Wands are also in their possession. It's last significant use was in the Great Dragon-Mage war. Since then, they've strengthened their ability to commune with the elements  and no longer require wands to cast spells.

 

Some older mages still use wands to stay connected to their ancestors, but most use incantations or runes to cast their spells.

AYASEA

Ayasea

Ayasea's barrier is different, which pulls in anyone who gets too close and makes it nearly impossible to escape.​

AYASEA is a country located in the southwestern region of Naestrirea, and is part of the Isles of Calypso. The climate in the Isles of Calypso is neutral and changes along with the four seasons. However, in Ayasea, it is cooler to accommodate nymphs of the water and air. Temperatures can get as high as 50 degrees Fahrenheit, but fall below 20 degrees Fahrenheit.

The government is ran by a group of nymphs from each tribe. One individual from each tribe is voted in as a council member and serves as a council member until the rest of the council feel that they need to be replaced. The nymphs are said to be descendants of the Snake Zodiac.

The only creatures who inhabit this area are nymphs, which are forest spirits. More specifically, one can find aurae and nephelae living here. They are nymphs of the breeze and the clouds. The main language spoken here is English, though there are some Greek influences within their culture as well. The lore behind Ayasea is inspired by Greek mythology.

➺ On the first day of the new season, all nymphs travel to meet up at Calypso, the Place of Gathering. This is the time when nymphs may select mates as well as a time to reconnect with the Council to discuss issues or concerns. The first and last few days of The Gathering is spent dancing and giving thanks to the Spring, Wind, and Water deities respectively. Mate selection may only occur during the times of dance.

➺ They don't have much of an economy because they don't want an abundance of outsiders in their territories. Anything that they need is created by their hands with help from nature.

➺ Mingxia was the second of the main cast to have visited the Isles of Calypso, during her Celestial Judgment. The first was Jing-Wei during her Grand Flight.

CEOSAL KINGDOM

Ceosal Kingdom

Featured in the Secret of Tarot novels: A Celestial Redemption, Broken Bonds and Ceosal Kingdom Tales.

The Mers used to host lavish parties on land where others from other nations could join in, but, after the Poaching and Mer-Avian War, these only occur in their underwater kingdom. Limited to their people only.

THE CEOSAL KINGDOM is a country located in the far west of Naestrirea. There are a few islands included in their territory and it is reserved for those that wish to spend some time on land. However, that land has been abandoned following the Poaching, but is still recognized as part of the Ceosal Kingdom's territory. Their Kingdom is underwater and remains unseen to those that live on the surface. The capital is Aquitas, which pays homage to their original nation name.

 

The environment is typically room temperature (the mer's idea of room temperature that is). As one sinks deeper into the depths of the Asura Ocean, the water becomes colder. Exiled or rogue Mer reside in this area.

The only creatures who inhabit this area are merfolk, half-fish/half-human creatures. They are also referred to as Mer. The main language spoken here is English, though there are some Celtic influences within their culture as well. The lore behind the Ceosal Kingdom is inspired by Celtic mythology.

CEOSAL KINGDOM RECORDS

GENERAL HISTORY OF AQUITAS/CEOSAL KINGDOM

IN 1 BC, AQUITAS, THE FORMER NAME OF CEOSAL KINGDOM, was created by the Goddess of Light, Meihui, and the God of Rain, Yuzan. Aquitas' first rulers were King Eärendil and Queen Aerwyna. While their days of birth are unknown, some believe that they were the first of their people to swim the seas of Naestrirea. Both rulers were loved and respected by all since their King and Queen treasured all equally. However, this era of prosperity didn't last long.

 

In the several years prior to the Mer-Avian War in 788 BC, Khaisitha, the home of the avians, and Aquitas were afflicted by nationwide predicaments. For Khaisitha, they experienced a drought, which forced avians to feed from other territories regardless of boundary lines. As for the Mers in Aquitas, a Mer-plague known as the Siren Virus (to outsiders) or Llyr's Affliction, took more than 346,276. Desperate to keep his people well-nourished in these ill-circumstances, King Eärendil declared war against Khaisitha. 

 

After a few months when the drought ended, but the plague persisted, an armistice was drawn. Despite the end to the conflict, the surviving Mer remained bitter from the whole ordeal and minimized contact with the avians and the surface world for centuries to come.

POST MER-AVIAN WAR: THE POACHING AND AFFLICTION CURE

AFTER QUEEN RAINA, the only daughter of King Eärendil and Queen Aerwyna, passed away from the affliction in 1123, her eldest son, King Aenon, and his wife, Thalassa, ascended the throne. Unfortunately, their reign was short, as they passed away in the Poaching. The Poaching, which occurred between 1136-1336 AC, involved humans casting their nets into the water to capture merfolk, often using them as trophies of their latest conquests. Due to their deaths in 1136, Raina's second eldest son, Leomaris, took the throne. 

 

King Leomaris called to the Deity of the Seas to assist them, but was met with silence. Therefore, he turned to petition the government of many nations until Khaisitha, an unlikely ally, agreed to help. Khaisitha thought that the act would help improve relations between the two nations and build mutual trust, and it did in the end. Furthermore, despite humans only being welcomed in Wuzhen, the Mers vowed to never walk the lands again.

In 1474 AC, King Leomaris passed, and his only child, Llyr, ascended the throne. Wanting to find a cure to the affliction, which had claimed 75% of the Mer population at this point, King Llyr petitioned the Vale of Aestrirea for assistance. The fairies of the Vale assisted in eradicating the Affliction in the known population, however, banished or rogue Mer were excluded from the healing process since their exact location remains unknown. As of 1480 AC, there are no newly reported cases of the Affliction.

A few years later, in 1479 AC, Aquitas was renamed to the Ceosal Kingdom.

FUN FACTS

➺ The kingdom's current prince, Wynne, is named after Wera’s dog, Winston, who passed away on January 2, 2021. His character shares most of his personality traits.

➺ Every fifteen years, the Gathering is held for matured underwater creatures to find their mates. Selkie, water sprites, mer from other kingdoms, and kelpie are invited.

➺ Annual ceremonies are held to remember the fallen from the Poaching and the Mer-Avian War. This includes singing, dancing, dolphin races, and other events.

➺ Every five years, a tournament is hosted involving eating competitions, races, sparring matches and more. This is known as the Ceosal Games and is inspired by the Olympic Games.

➺ Some delicacies of the Ceosal Kingdom includes coral cookies, sea urchin pudding, and fresh kelp.

INIGUTHIA is a country located in the northwestern region of Naestrirea. They have three major districts, each named after a cardinal sin: Ira, Invidia, and Luxuria. It is usually raining or snowing in Iniguthia.

The creatures who inhabit this area are pixies and dark angels, which are fairies and angels who have succumbed to darkness. The main language spoken here is English, though there are some Germanic influences within their culture as well. The lore behind Iniguthia is inspired by Judaic and Germanic mythology.

HISTORY OF INIGUTHIA

INIGUTHIA WAS CREATED BY THE DEVIL, also known as the Serpent. As the Devil counters the Hierophant, so does Iniguthia to Aeyaviel. The Devil has seven disciples. Each are manifestations of the seven deadly sins; adverse values that led them (who originally were pure angels) to being cast out of the heavens as a result of their temptations. Crowned the Princes of Hell, these notorious demons became the patron deities of Iniguthia's citizens. 

When the Princes of Hell rose up against Naestrirea, they threatened the balance between the realms and blurred the line between the land of the living and the dead. Because of this threat, a rare act of union among every nation occurred, leading them to stand together to expel the evil of these demons brought. Their efforts consolidated into one spell that shackled the souls of the Princes of Hell, preventing them from rising ever again with the full strength of their power.

 

Because darkness can never be truly destroyed, their souls splintered off a small piece of their true essence and took hold in the seven fallen angels who currently rule the Dark Court. With this small essence trapping them in a dormant sleep, and if they would ever reawaken, it would bring the rise of the Devil once again.

Featured in the Secret of Tarot novels: A Celestial Requiem and Broken Bonds.

It is believed that Meihui mated with a red-crowned crane, one of the most powerful avians in Khaisithan history, and that Khaisithans are descendants of the rooster of the Chinese Zodiac.

KHAISITHA is a country located in the northwestern region of Naestrirea. To the northwest lies the region of Qinqiu. It is mainly mountainous terrain, the Hawk and Falcon Tribes live in this area. Zeru and Riyen were the first avians to lead the Hawk Tribe and Falcon Tribes. Over the mountains, to the northeast rests Huafeng. The Crow and Zhen Tribes, led by Cati and Gatek, reside in this area because it is far removed from the rest of the country. No one cares to enter, out of disdain for these tribes. The south is Jiangguan. The Sparrow and Green/Blue Bird Tribes live here. They are the ones who remain in Khaisitha because they have weaker bodies compared to the hawks or falcons.

In the center is Jiaoxing, the capital of Khaisitha. The Peng and Owl Tribes serve as the guards to the Yûmáo Palace. And because the Crane Tribe are considered the wisest, and therefore upper-class, they also live in the capital. The only luan lives in the capital as well.

The climate is primarily warm like spring, about 70 degrees Fahrenheit as it is a suitable place for birds. The temperature never falls below 70 degrees. Khaisitha has many trees and the land is mostly undeveloped for the most part as the birds reside in villages amongst the trees.

The creatures who inhabit this area are bird shapeshifters. The main languages spoken here are English and Chinese. The lore behind Khaisitha is inspired by birds of myth in Chinese mythology.

GENERAL HISTORY OF KHAISITHA

IN 1 BC, KHAISITHA was created by the Goddess of Light, Meihui. Meihui created Khaisitha to give Wuzhen faithful messengers, which led to the birth of a new race: the avians. It is believed that Meihui mated with a red-crowned crane, one of the most powerful avians in Khaisithan history, and that Khaisithans are descendants of the rooster of the Chinese Zodiac. 

Starting with three, Khaisitha was ruled by an oligarchy: Cirasea (Green Bird), Zachariah (Hawk), Ivory (Crane). There are no written records about these three individuals because avians lived life in their bird form all the time and did not possess the ability to write.

With the help of Wuzhen, they obtained literacy and knowledge of the outside world and became more comfortable in their human forms. Seeing promise in the new species, Meihui created different avian subspecies. Each avian subspecies went on to form their own tribe.

POST MER-AVIAN WAR: ZHENNIAO AND CROW UPRISINGS

IN 788 AC, KHAISITHA WAS ENGAGED in battle by Aquitas (later renamed the Ceosal Kingdom) in what was to be called the Mer-Avian War. For several years, the avians of Khaisitha had been stealing food from Mer territory due to complications of the drought and unrest in their own land. While these battles occurred, the avians were dealing with uprisings among the Zhenniao and Crows. The Zhenniao had the potential to wipe out a nation with their poisonous feathers and the Crows were considered bottom feeders for their scavenging behavior. 

An armistice was drawn so that each nation could focus on the troubles that they faced internally. Protests and riots persisted as flocks were attacked. Reports of injured avians began circulating describing how avians had every feather plucked from their bodies prior to death. An avian without feathers was considered shameful, so it created significant resentment and anger towards the merpeople.

It took nearly a century to adjust to the Zhenniao and the Crows as their people, but there are still some people who are hesitant to interact with members of these tribes. The process was completed in several installments. First, the people had to understand that both parties are capable of feeling the same emotions. Second, they had to rid themselves of the fear. The Council addressed this by introducing a small number of Zhenniao and Crows to show them that they weren't inherently horrible creatures. Needless to say, the pride of some of the older avians was hurt, but they learned to see things from a different perspective with time.

➺ Their greatest, annual tradition is called the Grand Flight. All avians are invited to participate. In this event, avians fly around Naestrirea. The avian(s) that accomplish this feat become the next envoys.

➺ All birds are capable of shifting into a human form whenever they are communicating with individuals of other nations.

➺ Khaisitha doesn't export particular items, but rather their services as messengers or representatives of other nations.

➺An ancient spell, Birdsong, was used in the past to hypnotize any avian who heard it. A powerful that's now outlawed and forbidden.

MIYARENE is a country located in the southwestern region of Naestrirea, and is part of the Isles of Calypso. The climate in the Isles of Calypso is neutral and changes along with the four seasons. However, in Miyarene it is cooler to accommodate nymphs of the water. Temperatures can get as high as 50 degrees Fahrenheit, but fall below 20 degrees Fahrenheit.

 

Miyarene is where naiads, nymphs of the water, live. Their main towns are Thalassa and Lyra, which are named after their former tribe leaders, and they often spend time convening with sirens who live in the surrounding waters. The current tribe leaders are the spirits of the three oceans in the realm: Nomia of Nightshade Ocean, Rhodope of Raeyeong Ocean, and Alcinoe of Asura Ocean.

The only creatures who inhabit this area are various types of naiads, spirits of nature. The main language spoken here is English, though there are some Greek influences within their culture as well. The lore behind Miyarene is inspired by Greek mythology.
